Swoop! There it is

Mt Druitt - St Mary's Standard (East) - - NEWS -

UPON hearing reports of this unrelenting magpie in Erskine Park, I thought it would be a good idea to see what all the fuss was about — I was wrong.

It was 10am and I was on a mission: to walk through Spica Reserve in Erskine Park and emerge unscathed.

I began walking slowly, keeping an eye out for the magpie and then I spotted it on the ground.

I kept walking down the path and then watched it fly up, it was hovering ominously above my head but didn’t seem bothered by me.

Walking up and down the path for about 10 minutes, I was ready to give up and call the whole magpie swooping thing a hoax.

I spotted its nest and almost instantly the bird hit me. I quickly threw my hands up and screamed. I then turned to see its red beady eyes had spotted me again. I ducked and it struck me in the front of my head, this time drawing blood.

I clutched my head and admitted defeat, the magpie was the clear winner. Hobbling back to my car I vowed never to go back.
