IF MEN can have a man cave, why shouldn’t women have one to escape to?

Meet the She Shed, a new trend which gives women their own hide-out.

Built in a backyard nook, these tiny sheds or cottages are perfect for women who want a space for reading, creating, gardening or even napping.

Celebrity interior designer and decorator Tara Dennis says the She Shed is the new must-have.

Dennis says that while some women are installing a She Shed in their backyard, others like herself have transformed a neglected corner in their house into their perfect sanctuary.

“Having a creative space has always been a dream for many but what I believe is pushing this latest trend in She Sheds is the rise and rise of online businesses, bloggers and people working from home,” Dennis says.

“Working from a home environment is a luxury for many but can also be stressful when it becomes difficult to separate work from family life.

“Carving out a dedicated space is crucial, not only for more productive behaviour but also for the wellbeing of you and your family.”

A She Shed can be created indoors or outdoors, any space you feel comfortable in, she says. Other options could be a studio in the garden, a loft conversion or converting a small room or even a landing.

“It’s important to carve out a space where you want to be and spend time in. You’ll be so much more productive in a happy place,” Dennis says.

Women only … a She Shed offers a woman a space where she can get away from it all, Tara Dennis, pictured in her own small studio, says.
