GRAF­FITI eye­sores in Emerton and St Marys have topped the list of trou­ble spots se­lected by read­ers in NewsLo­cal’s Neigh­bour­hood Res­cue cam­paign.

Res­i­dents have made com­plaints about the strip of build­ings along Po­pon­detta Rd at Emerton such as the One Christ Church, which is cov­ered in un­sightly van­dal­ism.

One Christ Church se­nior Min­is­ter Jessie Mal­i­bi­ran said the con­stant graf­fiti at­tacks were not wel­comed.

“We don’t feel good about it but we knew it was an is­sue when we moved into the build­ing two years ago,” Min­is­ter Mal­i­bi­ran said. “We have CCTV footage and we are work­ing with po­lice.” He said there were also plans to in­stall a fence in com­ing weeks.

Be­hind the shops at the top end of Queen St, St Marys, makeshift mu­rals of com­pet­ing tags cover whole walls. St Marys Town Cen­tre man­ager Paulette Adams said she was work­ing to en­cour­age prop­erty own­ers to clean it off.

“It doesn’t take much to put a lick of paint over it,” Ms Adams said.
