GRAFFITI eyesores in Emerton and St Marys have topped the list of trouble spots selected by readers in NewsLocal’s Neighbourhood Rescue campaign.
Residents have made complaints about the strip of buildings along Popondetta Rd at Emerton such as the One Christ Church, which is covered in unsightly vandalism.
One Christ Church senior Minister Jessie Malibiran said the constant graffiti attacks were not welcomed.
“We don’t feel good about it but we knew it was an issue when we moved into the building two years ago,” Minister Malibiran said. “We have CCTV footage and we are working with police.” He said there were also plans to install a fence in coming weeks.
Behind the shops at the top end of Queen St, St Marys, makeshift murals of competing tags cover whole walls. St Marys Town Centre manager Paulette Adams said she was working to encourage property owners to clean it off.
“It doesn’t take much to put a lick of paint over it,” Ms Adams said.
