Neigh­bours must now ne­go­ti­ate

WITH the Gov­ern­ment turn­ing up the heat last week, some coun­cils have scram­bled back to the ne­go­ti­at­ing ta­ble to avoid be­ing com­pletely shut out of the re­form process.

Many may­ors and coun­cil­lors are now ma­noeu­vring to en­sure they do not miss out on mil­lions dol­lars in financial in­cen­tives on the ta­ble, now merg­ers are in­evitable.

They in­clude Manly re­new­ing talks with War­ringah and Pittwa­ter.

Mar­rickville is now seek­ing talks with Can­ter­bury, Ash­field, Le­ich­hardt and the City of Syd­ney.

Liver­pool now sup­ports a merger with Fair­field, Liver­pool, Cam­den, Camp­bell­town and Wol­londilly.

Par­ra­matta is also seek­ing to re­new ne­go­ti­a­tions with neigh­bour­ing coun­cils, as are some coun­cils in the east.
