Neighbours must now negotiate
WITH the Government turning up the heat last week, some councils have scrambled back to the negotiating table to avoid being completely shut out of the reform process.
Many mayors and councillors are now manoeuvring to ensure they do not miss out on millions dollars in financial incentives on the table, now mergers are inevitable.
They include Manly renewing talks with Warringah and Pittwater.
Marrickville is now seeking talks with Canterbury, Ashfield, Leichhardt and the City of Sydney.
Liverpool now supports a merger with Fairfield, Liverpool, Camden, Campbelltown and Wollondilly.
Parramatta is also seeking to renew negotiations with neighbouring councils, as are some councils in the east.
