PCYC set for de­but fes­ti­val

AN EX­CITED buzz has taken over at Mt Druitt PCYC as vol­un­teers and man­age­ment pre­pare to host the cen­tre’s first fes­ti­val.

Com­plete with games, rides, stalls and raf­fles, the Fes­ti­val Of Hope will run at the Shalvey base on Satur­day from 10am-4pm, rais­ing money for the on­go­ing costs of the cen­tre’s var­i­ous out­reach pro­grams.

PCYC man­ager Lance Chaloner said the day was also a way to bring the com­mu­nity to­gether for some “great fam­ily fun”.

One of the pro­grams the fes­ti­val could help fund is a planned hub of med­i­cal, financial and so­cial sup­port ser­vices such as drug and al­co­hol coun­cil­lors and sup­port for do­mes­tic vi­o­lence vic­tims.

Mr Chaloner said the pro­grams, such as the Wed­nes­day free food stalls, were al­ready prov­ing suc­cess­ful.

“Ev­ery time we meet the group keeps grow­ing, which means we are reach­ing peo­ple,” he said.
