I LOVE taking pictures on my phone and I haven’t stopped snapping all the beautiful landmarks.

Unfortunately, my enthusiasm is not matched by my ability.

With NewsLocal’s #SnapSydney campaign happen- ing next Wednesday, I sought expert advice from Daily Telegraph photographer John Fotiadis.

For starters, he says, make sure your lens is clean. And make sure your fingers aren’t anywhere near the lens. I know it’s called digital photography but that’s not what they mean.

John suggests keeping pictures simple and looking for strong compositions.

Early morning or late afternoon will provide interesting shadows and beautiful coloured light, he says. But don’t be afraid to shoot into the light, as this creates interesting silhouettes.

I’ll be practising this week ahead of the big day next Wednesday, November 18. I hope you will too.
