THE rides twirled, the sausages sizzled and a wide variety of games kept revellers entertained at the First Festival of Hope.

The Mt Druitt PCYC festival provided great family fun at its Shalvey base on Saturday.

The event’s profits will go towards the ongoing costs of the centre’s various outreach programs, including a hub dedicated to mental health, domestic violence and other support services.

PCYC manager Lance Chaloner said the event proved a successful fundraiser and would definitely return next year.

“Some were put off by the weather but overall it was a great day,” he said.

“It is the first time we have done something like this and we have learnt a lot.”

Mr Chaloner praised the enthusiasm of Chifley federal Labor MP Ed Husic and Blacktown Mayor Stephen Bali.

“They both spoke very genuinely, which means a lot to everyone involved in putting this together,” he said.

“They get what we are trying to achieve and support it.”
