Police go extra mile for proud daughter after medals return
WORLD War II medals stolen almost two weeks ago from a St Marys home have been returned to their owner.
Lorraine Roberts made a public appeal after four of her father’s services medals were stolen along with a number of other items from her Kenny Ave home on Wednesday, October 28.
Mrs Roberts said she returned home from work on Tuesday, November 9 to find the medals and a few items of jewellery had been returned anonymously.
“I found the box on a table outside my house. I was shocked that the medals were actually inside,” Mrs Roberts said.
“I don’t know what possessed them to bring them back but at least they have. I was so surprised.”
Mrs Roberts also thanked St Marys police officers for their efforts in helping return the medals.
“Constable Brett Henry and his team went above and beyond for me. I am so blessed to have them (the medals) back,” Mrs Roberts said.
Inspector Tracy Stone said St Marys police also had the four medals mounted and framed at no cost to Mrs Roberts.
“We thought we could make something nice out of something horrible that happened. We know the gift will be treasured by Mrs Roberts and it is great for the police to assist with that memory,” Insp Stone said.
