Family funding cuts to affect west worst of all

Mt Druitt - St Mary's Standard (East) - - NEWS -

THE plan to abolish family welfare bonuses for three million Australian children will smash Western Sydney but barely touch the wealthy electorate of PM Malcolm Turnbull.

Nine out of the top-10 NSW seats hit hardest by the Fed- eral Government’s plan to abandon the annual $726 bonus for every child are in Western Sydney. Families with the most to lose are in Labor MP Ed Husic’s seat of Chifley.

“Raising a family in our area doesn’t come cheap. The cost of living keeps going up and now Malcolm Turnbull is trying to cut hundreds of dollars a year from family budgets,” Mr Husic said. “Working couples ... with two kids in high school will be around $2,600 a year worse off because of cuts to the schoolkids bonus and family tax benefit supplements.”

Two electorates stand out as escaping maximum pain – Mr Turnbull’s electorate of Wentworth in Sydney and his deputy Julie Bishop’s seat of Curtin in Perth.
