Hazardous parking conditions at school
COUNCIL CRACKS DOWN ON PARENTS PARKING THEIR CARS ILLEGALLY
PARKING along Archer St in Mt Druitt has become a nightmare during school pick up and drop off time, with residents unable to park in their own driveways.
Blacktown Council has launched a crackdown on the area outside Colyton Public School, issuing twelve fines in the area in October alone. The entrance and exit to the school is on Archer St, and parents have been blocking off driveways and even parked in a carport of resident Anthony Bishop.
“Parents often double park and park across my driveway, and on more than one occasion I have had people park in my driveway under my carport,” Mr Bish- op said. “I don’t care so much about being parked in but I care about the safety of my kids.”
He said he had been in contact with the school about the issue. The council has also been cracking down on the mayhem outside the school recently and is fining parents for a number of parking infringements. A spokesman said: “Council records show Colyton Public School was patrolled twice in October 2015 (and) October 8, six infringements were issued in (nearby) Nelson St and on October 29, another six were issued.”
A Department of Education spokesman said: “Colyton Public School regularly reminds parents about traffic management around the school.”
Archer St resident Anthony Bishop is fed up with parents parking in his driveway during school pick up and drop off and (inset) people are forced to double park their cars on the council strip when dropping off their children at Colyton Public School.
