Church to host free lunch on Christmas Day
A FREE luncheon will be held on Christmas Day at St Marys Anglican Church.
Residents who would otherwise have no one to share the day with are invited to enjoy a fun event complete with music and good company.
Organiser Gwen Bugden said while it was an event run by Christians in the church, people from any religion could attend.
“It really is a wonderful event for people who don’t have anyone to celebrate with, and those doing it tough,” Ms Bugden said.
“We do up the tables just like we would in our own homes with linen tablecloths, music playing, and lots of people to talk to.”
Lunch will include traditional favourites such as roast turkey, ham, baked vegetables, Christmas pudding and trifle.
The church is on the corner of King and Magdalene streets, St Marys.
The first luncheon welcomed 25 for dinner, but up to 85 people have attended.
There is limited transport available to the event for those who need a lift.
