Church to host free lunch on Christ­mas Day

A FREE luncheon will be held on Christ­mas Day at St Marys Angli­can Church.

Res­i­dents who would oth­er­wise have no one to share the day with are in­vited to enjoy a fun event com­plete with mu­sic and good com­pany.

Or­gan­iser Gwen Bug­den said while it was an event run by Chris­tians in the church, peo­ple from any re­li­gion could at­tend.

“It really is a won­der­ful event for peo­ple who don’t have any­one to cel­e­brate with, and those do­ing it tough,” Ms Bug­den said.

“We do up the ta­bles just like we would in our own homes with li­nen table­cloths, mu­sic play­ing, and lots of peo­ple to talk to.”

Lunch will in­clude tra­di­tional favourites such as roast tur­key, ham, baked veg­eta­bles, Christ­mas pud­ding and tri­fle.

The church is on the cor­ner of King and Mag­da­lene streets, St Marys.

The first luncheon wel­comed 25 for din­ner, but up to 85 peo­ple have at­tended.

There is lim­ited trans­port avail­able to the event for those who need a lift.
