AT JUST 17, Isabelle Bonanno has been dubbed one of the best aspiring dancers in the country.

The Minchinbury student has been selected as one of 24 dancers to take part in the Sydney Dance Company’s pre-professional year.

Isabelle had just finished her HSC at Newtown Performing Arts High School when she found out. “I got the email, and I almost cried when it came. I didn’t want to read it, I read it a few times before it even sank in,” she said. “I have always gone to watch their performances, I knew it was just something I could see myself doing.”

The 12-month intensive program offers a unique training experience, where the aspiring dancers train alongside the Sydney Dance Company ensemble to learn the ins and outs of a professional dance career.

The students will be taught by professional choreographers and dancers from all over the world. It will be a challenge, with Isabelle dancing five days a week for the year, coming away from the program with a Certificate IV in Dance.
