Mt Druitt firefighters were called to a boat fire (pictured) near bushland in Shalvey on Monday morning. About 7.50am, Fire and Rescue NSW was called to a paddock behind a house on Roche Grove. The 5m fibreglass boat was well alight when crews arrived, however the fire was quickly extinguished. Police are investigating the cause.
ST MARYS A 12-year-old boy broke his ankle after allegedly riding his scooter into the side of a car as it was halfway across a crossing at St Marys last week. About 3.10pm on December 8, the boy was riding his scooter on Queen St when he allegedly tried to cross at the same time as a car, driven by a 17-year-old Mt Druitt boy, was already partially across. The road was closed for a short time as the scene was cleared. The injured boy was taken to Nepean Hospital for treatment. Police said no charges were expected to be laid.
NORTH ST MARYS A Whalan man, 24, has been charged with disqualified driving after a car he was travelling in was pulled over by police in North St Marys. About 4.45pm on December 1, the man was stopped while allegedly driving on Debrincat Avenue at North St Marys for a random breath test. The test was negative but checks revealed the man was disqualified from driving until 2016. He will face Penrith Court on January 14.
ST MARYS Five segways, batteries and chargers with a combined value of about $50,000 have been stolen from a shed on Mamre Rd. Between 5pm on November 30 and 5.50am on December 1, thieves have broken into the shed. Anyone with information should call St Marys police on 9677 7499 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
ST MARYS St Marys police are appealing for information from the public after a 10-year-old boy was approached at Werrington earlier this month. About 8.45am on December 3, the boy was walking to school along Lockyer Avenue when he told police a matt-black van started following him. Officers have been told the driver tried to entice the child into his van but he ran to school and reported the incident to a teacher, who contacted police. The man is described as being of caucasian appearance, aged about 30-40, with a full-face beard. The man was seen wearing a black T-shirt and dark sunglasses. WESTERN SYDNEY More than 90 motorists have been caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during a major road safety blitz in Sydney’s west. Operation Nabbed M4 was conducted between 10pm3am on Friday and Saturday nights. It involved police performing high-visibility random breath testing on every westbound M4 off-ramp between Strathfield and Glenbrook, as well as the Great Western Highway at Glenbrook. Police conducted 15,432 breath tests and 65 drug tests, charged 69 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol and stopped 25 motorists who returned a positive reading for driving under the influence of illicit drugs.
