Mt Druitt fire­fight­ers were called to a boat fire (pic­tured) near bush­land in Shalvey on Mon­day morn­ing. About 7.50am, Fire and Res­cue NSW was called to a pad­dock be­hind a house on Roche Grove. The 5m fi­bre­glass boat was well alight when crews ar­rived, how­ever the fire was quickly ex­tin­guished. Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the cause.

ST MARYS A 12-year-old boy broke his an­kle af­ter al­legedly rid­ing his scooter into the side of a car as it was half­way across a cross­ing at St Marys last week. About 3.10pm on De­cem­ber 8, the boy was rid­ing his scooter on Queen St when he al­legedly tried to cross at the same time as a car, driven by a 17-year-old Mt Druitt boy, was al­ready par­tially across. The road was closed for a short time as the scene was cleared. The in­jured boy was taken to Ne­pean Hos­pi­tal for treat­ment. Po­lice said no charges were ex­pected to be laid.

NORTH ST MARYS A Wha­lan man, 24, has been charged with dis­qual­i­fied driv­ing af­ter a car he was trav­el­ling in was pulled over by po­lice in North St Marys. About 4.45pm on De­cem­ber 1, the man was stopped while al­legedly driv­ing on Debrin­cat Av­enue at North St Marys for a ran­dom breath test. The test was neg­a­tive but checks re­vealed the man was dis­qual­i­fied from driv­ing un­til 2016. He will face Pen­rith Court on Jan­uary 14.

ST MARYS Five seg­ways, bat­ter­ies and charg­ers with a com­bined value of about $50,000 have been stolen from a shed on Mamre Rd. Be­tween 5pm on Novem­ber 30 and 5.50am on De­cem­ber 1, thieves have bro­ken into the shed. Any­one with in­for­ma­tion should call St Marys po­lice on 9677 7499 or Crime Stop­pers on 1800 333 000.

ST MARYS St Marys po­lice are ap­peal­ing for in­for­ma­tion from the pub­lic af­ter a 10-year-old boy was ap­proached at Werrington ear­lier this month. About 8.45am on De­cem­ber 3, the boy was walk­ing to school along Lock­yer Av­enue when he told po­lice a matt-black van started fol­low­ing him. Of­fi­cers have been told the driver tried to en­tice the child into his van but he ran to school and re­ported the in­ci­dent to a teacher, who con­tacted po­lice. The man is de­scribed as be­ing of cau­casian ap­pear­ance, aged about 30-40, with a full-face beard. The man was seen wear­ing a black T-shirt and dark sun­glasses. Po­lice ask any­one with in­for­ma­tion to call St Marys po­lice on 9677 7499 or Crime Stop­pers.

WESTERN SYDNEY More than 90 mo­torists have been caught driv­ing un­der the in­flu­ence of drugs or al­co­hol dur­ing a ma­jor road safety blitz in Sydney’s west. Op­er­a­tion Nabbed M4 was con­ducted be­tween 10pm3am on Fri­day and Satur­day nights. It in­volved po­lice per­form­ing high-vis­i­bil­ity ran­dom breath test­ing on ev­ery west­bound M4 off-ramp be­tween Strath­field and Glen­brook, as well as the Great Western High­way at Glen­brook. Po­lice con­ducted 15,432 breath tests and 65 drug tests, charged 69 mo­torists for driv­ing un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol and stopped 25 mo­torists who re­turned a pos­i­tive read­ing for driv­ing un­der the in­flu­ence of il­licit drugs.
