Bub heralds new year joy
GORGEOUS Macy Jade Matkovich made her way into the world just a few short hours into 2016.
The Shalvey bub was the first New Year’s baby in the St Marys and Mt Druitt area.
Mother Melissa Fitzgerald was rushed to Blacktown Hospital shortly after the midnight fireworks finished on January 1.
“I said to my partner, ‘babe we have to go right now’. We got an ambulance and went straight in. I knew she was coming then,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
Macy was born almost 11 hours later, at 10.47am, weighing 2.8kg and measuring 52cm long.
She was born with blue eyes and a full head of hair.
Ms Fitzgerald said Macy had arrived three days earlier than expected.
“I wasn't expecting her to come on New Year’s Day at all. She wasn't due until the fourth, but everything went smoothly,” she said.
Ms Fitzgerald praised Blacktown Hospital staff.
“The nurses were great with everything. They kept telling me to hurry up and push her out, so I could be the first,” she said.
Macy’s name came as a result of a post by her father on social media.
“My partner asked his Facebook friends to come up with ideas for a name – someone suggested Macy, and we loved it,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
Macy is the firstborn child to Melissa and partner Mac, and joins three older siblings at their Shalvey home.
“Her older siblings have been great, and she has been a very good baby so far,” Ms Fitzgerald said.
