Beauty queen lends a hand to sup­port fam­ily abuse vic­tims

ROPES Cross­ing pageant queen Kim Can­cel­lier is us­ing her suc­cess to help vic­tims of do­mes­tic vi­o­lence.

The 30-year-old wife and mother, who re­cently se­cured a fi­nal­ists place in the 2016 Aus­tralian Galaxy Pageant, is a for­mer Global United ti­tle­holder, a Mrs Uni­verse top-15 fi­nal­ist and a Mrs Aus­tralia char­ity ti­tle­holder.

Mrs Can­cel­lier be­gan a pageant ca­reer af­ter leav­ing an abu­sive re­la­tion­ship.

“I came out of an abu­sive re­la­tion­ship feel­ing worth­less – then I was pretty much dared by a friend to en­ter a pageant,” she said.

“I had a de­cent amount of suc­cess and just kept go­ing.”

Af­ter com­pet­ing in the Mrs Uni­verse com­pe­ti­tion in 2014, the beauty queen started the group “Queens with­out Scars” with a fel­low con­tes­tant.

Mrs Can­cel­lier said the group sup­ported women ex­pe­ri­enc­ing do­mes­tic abuse.

“It is im­por­tant women know they have some­one they can speak with and they can share their sto­ries and how they may over­come their sit­u­a­tion,” she said.
