A man will face Mt Druitt Local Court tomorrow after a female police officer was struck in the head by a glass bottle at Shalvey in the early hours of New Year’s Day. About 1.15am police were patrolling Sidwell Pl when they noticed a large group of people standing on the road. Officers asked them to move, at which point one person allegedly reached inside the police car before running into a nearby house. Police said they were verbally abused as they went to the address and spoke to a group of men before it is alleged a man, 21, threw a glass bottle at police, which struck a female constable in the head. The injured officer was taken to Nepean Hospital, where she received five stitches for a large cut to the forehead. The man was taken to Mt Druitt police station and charged with reckless wounding, affray, and resist officer in execution of duty.
EASTERN CREEK Two men were taken to Westmead Hospital following a crash involving two vehicles travelling in the same direction on the M7 at Eastern Creek on Sunday morning. The crash occurred about 2.30am when a Toyota Landcruiser hit the back of a stationary black Mercedes. The driver of the Mercedes, a Condell Park man, 27, and his front-seat passenger, a Revesby man, 21, were taken to hospital with suspected fractures. The driver of the Toyota, a Milperra man, 26, also was taken to Westmead Hospital as a precaution. Police believe another dark-coloured vehicle may have stopped beside the Mercedes before the impact. Mt Druitt police are keen to speak with anyone with information.
EMERTON A man, 29, was refused bail after he allegedly robbed a convenience store armed with a piercing gun. He also faces charges relating to the breaking into of a unit and crashing a stolen car at Emerton. Just before 5.30am on January 2, a man walked into a Popondetta Rd store allegedly armed with a piercing gun where he threatened an employee before fleeing with a number of items. A short time later, police were called to nearby Bunting St where a man was being held by residents. It’s alleged the man broke into a unit and stole a vehicle before crashing it into three vehicles. The man was arrested and taken to Mt Druitt Hospital for blood and urine testing. He was charged with robbery while armed with offensive weapon; aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence; unlicensed driver; and not reverse vehicle safely. He will face Penrith Local Court on March 4.
ROOTY HILL A man will face Mt Druitt Local Court at a date to be set after he allegedly robbed a liquor store at Mt Druitt on December 28. Police allege a man entered a Rooty Hill Rd North store about 4pm armed with a knife. He allegedly threatened an employee and demanded cash. When the employee fled the armed man attempted to open the cash register but couldn’t. He then allegedly stole two bottles of alcohol, and a bottle of soft drink. About 5.15pm officers arrested a man, 33, on the M7 bike path at Dean Park. He was charged with robbery with an offensive weapon.
