NEW year means getting ready for new home trends. And it looks like decorators will once again be inspired by the fashion catwalk.

Stylist Megan Morton says decorators will be using metallics, blacks, feathers and fringes that feature in the fashion shows.

It won’t only be about style as people make more effort to get thrifty, Morton adds.

So what’s on the horizon? Here are a few of Morton’s predictions. Going natural Simplicity and lightness will be at the forefront of design, with natural and whitewash tones taking the lead.

A neutral colour palette is the key to a beautiful room, because you can subtly or dramatically change the room by adding pops of colour and experiment with accessories like rugs, cushions, throws and rugs. Magic metallic Get set to shimmer in 2016 and enjoy metallic magic using bronze, silver and gold against bright whites. Metallics have a warm tone and will complement other items. Try the limited-edition Megan Morton Four Poster Bed by Incy Interiors. The traditional fourposter bed is made from rose gold and copper-coloured iron for a contemporary touch. Get thrifty We will see a mix of old meets new next year, giving rooms some layered lustre while helping to personalise the space. Op-shops, eBay and flea markets are great places to source charming pieces.

Look for stylish items such as baskets as an alternative to traditional toy boxes and drawers. Get back into black Black has been embraced by many and will creep back into our homes in 2016. Contrast it against white accessories for a chic look. Ruffle some feathers Enjoy feathered finesse at home by replacing traditional floral centrepiece with a collection of feathers or select a featureinspired artwork to dress a wall. Fringe festival From clothing to accessories to homewares, the boho fringe trend will make its mark. Fringed drapes will help shade us from the sun while fringed doilies will dress anything from kitchen tables to sofas and more. Break the habit Next year is the perfect time to move away from matchy matchy. Be colour confident – 2016 will be filled with rainbows.
