Ambassador stands proud
BLACKTOWN Council’s Australia Day ambassador Kumud Merani’s message is simple: stand together and embrace multiculturalism.
The SBS radio producer said she was thrilled to be part of Blacktown’s celebrations because it was such a multicultural area.
“I’m a migrant who came here 30 years ago from India because Australia is a place where you could get a fair go,” Ms Merani said.
“In my role, it’s all about helping people assimilate into society and giving them the tools so they are able to work hard.” The Eastwood resident served as the Australia Day ambassador for Bankstown and Ashfield in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
