Can­berra Cavalry cut down Blue Sox hopes

SYD­NEY Blue Sox have missed out on a place in the Aus­tralian Base­ball League post­sea­son play­offs af­ter go­ing down to se­cond-placed Can­berra Elite Cavalry.

The Rooty Hill-based side was no match for the team from the na­tion’s cap­i­tal, los­ing all three games in the se­ries.

Af­ter bad weather post­poned the first match, Syd­ney were un­able to get their rhythm to­gether and were de­feated 3-2 on Fri­day.

Satur­day saw the Blue Sox win the first half of a dou­ble- header with 18-year-old Lach­lan Wells set­ting up a chal­lenge with two runs early on.

How­ever, Can­berra fought back to win 7-2.

In the fi­nal game in the se­ries Can­berra fin­ished strongly, de­feat­ing the Blue Sox 5-0 and se­cur­ing their place in the fi­nals along­side the Bris­bane Ban­dits.

Syd­ney will play the Mel­bourne Aces in their fi­nal game of the reg­u­lar sea­son at Black­town In­ter­na­tional Sport­spark, East­ern Rd, Rooty Hill, this week­end.
