Paige to sparkle with Diamonds
‘EXCITED AND HONOURED’ TO BE ON TOUR
ST CLAIR netball star Paige Hadley has touched down in England with the rest of the Diamonds netball squad ahead of the Australians’ three-Test series against the England Roses.
The 14-player squad arrived in chilly Manchester last week and enjoyed a few days of snow as the girls trained at Salford University prior to the first Test.
Hadley, 23, a midcourt player, told her Facebook followers she was very excited to be named in the squad.
“(I am) Super excited and honoured to be named in the Aussie Diamonds team to tour the UK,” she said. Hadley made her senior debut for the Diamonds in 2013 against Malawi.
The Diamonds play their first game in Liverpool this afternoon (Wednesday). The team then travels to Lon- don for the final two games on Friday and Sunday.
The Diamonds have beaten England in their past four meetings, including in the Netball World Cup in Sydney in August last year.
However, the team’s acting vicecaptain Sharni Layton said the Diamonds still had their work cut out.
“England have really stepped up in regards to their performances against us in recent years,” she said.
“Last time we were here it was 3-0 not in our favour so we can’t take this lightly.
“They’re going to come out absolutely firing and we’ve got to be prepared for that.”
Hadley’s fans won’t miss a minute of action, with the Test series being televised live on Network Ten and Fox Sports Australia.
The first game will air at 6am tomorrow (AEST).
Paige Hadley shows her determination against Trinidad and Tobago at the Netball World Cup at Allphones Arena, Sydney Olympic Park in 2015.
