Fuel prices hit their lowest levels in almost six years

MT DRUITT and St Marys drivers are enjoying the lowest fuel prices in almost six years, as petrol dipped to less than $1 a litre last week.

A global oversupply of crude oil has pushed the bar- rel price to below $US50, and this has finally filtered through to local commuters.

The price of E10 at the 7Eleven in Popondetta Rd, Emerton, was 99.9 cents per litre last week. E10 was also below the $1 mark at Caltex, Luxford Rd, Mt Druitt, BP in Glossop St, St Marys, and Woolworths Caltex at Plumpton Marketplace.

Drivers welcomed the petrol price respite amid a tough year of rising costs. One Dean Park mother said the fuel drop was a relief for the weekly budget.

“Just a few days ago, I was paying about 30 cents more a litre,” she said.

According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), fuel rose sharply in early January to almost $1.30 a litre before steadily dropping to last week’s new low.
