Upgrades not cheap
THERE are 3000 buses across all of Sydney.
That’s about 1200 buses that don’t have wheelchair access.
New buses cost about $300,000 each.
Now times that by 1200 and you will send NSW broke.
Buses have a working lifespan of 20 to 30 years, with the average age of 12 years.
They will all be wheelchair buses one day but it won’t be tomorrow.
On the timetable it tells you when a low floor is due (sometimes they break down and there is not a low floor to replace as they are all on the road or getting serviced).
