Free petrol sparks frenzy
HUNDREDS of vehicles stretched along Sydney’s Great Western Hwy as drivers queued for Metro Petroleum’s free fuel offer in St Marys last Wednesday.
Cars had begun queuing at the petrol station well before noon when the price of petrol was heavily discounted by $1/litre in the launch of a new reward points phone app.
The petrol station teamed up with Go2 Rewards to give the discounted fuel to drivers who’d downloaded their app. Because petrol prices remained under $1, drivers could fill their tanks, free, up to $50.
Despite the long wait, the offer went smoothly, with Go2 staff walking up and down the lines of cars keeping drivers updated.
