AN EASTERN brown snake made its way into a home in Sedgman Cres at Shalvey at the weekend.

The 1.2m snake entered into the home, which backs on to Whalan Reserve, through a small hole in the laundry before making its way into a child’s bedroom.

This week, a six-year-old girl died in Walgett after being bitten by the same type of snake.

Freya Cade, of Australian Snake Catchers in St Clair, said a number of eastern brown snakes were seen in the area over the past week.

“As well as the incident in Shalvey, we have seen snakes in a number of houses in St Clair and St Marys this week,” she said.

Mrs Cade said all these jobs were attended to quickly.

“We arrived within 10 minutes to the Shalvey job and treated it with most haste – we found the lady standing on her coffee table with no shoes on, and she was freaking out,” she said.

“(The snake) went into her five-year-old son’s room and got up into his bed and only 15 minutes prior he was asleep in that bed – she was completely panicked.

“The snake was so hot and just looking to get out of the heat.

“We got the snake out as quickly as possible and it was safely relocated.”
