Merger for registries
WISH LIST FOR NEW CENTRE: PLENTIFUL PARKING, SHORTER WAITING TIMES
ST MARYS motor registry customers hope the new “one-stop-shop” to open in Mt Druitt won’t face the same parking issues as other registries around the area.
The motor registries in Station Plaza in Phillip St, St Marys, and Luxford Rd, Mt Druitt, will close by the middle of the year and be replaced by a new Service NSW centre.
Most of the customers The Standard spoke with outside the St Marys registry were from outside the suburb.
Irene and James Smith, of Mt Druitt, came to the St Marys registry because it was so much easier than the one nearer to their house.
“You can’t get into Mt Druitt. You’re there for hours. There’s parking problems and everything at Mt Druitt,” Mr Smith said.
Cheryl Rollings, of Kingswood, said she would learn to do transactions online.
“I specifically come here just for this, ever since the York St one (at South Penrith) closed down. It’s there or here. I’m not going to the one in High St (Penrith), because there’s nowhere to park,” Ms Rollings said.
The new registry will be at a different location from the current Mt Druitt one, said a spokesman for Finance, Services and Property Minister Dominic Perrottet.
“Details of the new site are being finalised and will be announced in due course,” he said.
The new centre will offer access to more than 850 NSW Government services, including NSW Seniors Card applications, birth and marriage certificates, ownerbuilders permits and Opal card transactions. IAN PRIMERANO Shanes Park I usually go to Penrith because this one here is not too involved in heavy vehicles. At least in here, it’s not too bad (and) always quiet. You’re in and out quickly. MERILYN PORTER Glenmore Park It’s going to impact a lot of people because there’s nowhere to park in Penrith. They don’t think about the old people and people who can’t get around. BRAD SHAW Mt Druitt I live in Mt Druitt, but I come here because it’s small and not busy. The Mt Druitt one is always packed. BILL DONEVSKI Doonside I come here because there’s a less wait, otherwise I would go to the one in Blacktown. At Mt Druitt, you wait forever.
