Japanese stars join the action
A QUARTET of top-class Japanese gallopers will provide a considerable international presence for The Championships in Sydney this autumn.
Racing NSW has confirmed Isla Bonita (trained by Hironori Kurita), Logotype (Tsuyoshi Tanaka), Tosen Stardom and Tosen Reve (both Yasutoshi Ikee) will compete. “We are again delighted to attract the interest from Japan with horses of this quality,” Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys said.
Isla Bonita is one of the best horses in Japan, winning their 2000 Guineas before placing second in the Japanese Derby as a threeyear-old.
Logotype was the champion two-year-old of his year in Japan and as a three-year- old defeated Japan’s worldclass galloper Epiphaneia.
Tosen Stardom raced in Sydney last autumn, running second in the Ranvet Stakes then fifth in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes last year, and is targeting those races again. Stablemate Tosen Reve may become the first Japanese runner to contest the Sydney Cup.
