Generous spirit nets award for Brock
SHALVEY’S Brock EyreNixon has taken out The Standard’s Young Sporting Spirit award for his baseball feats.
After countless trips overseas to represent Australia, Brock said he still couldn’t believe he won.
“No way didn’t I expect to win, I thought one of the other kids would get it,” he said.
Brock’s mother Rochelle said she couldn’t believe it either.
“We were shocked and stunned, there were quite a few kids there that were just as good as him but we were just happy to be there,” she said.
Brock trains two days a week with the NSW junior baseball team, but also gives up his time to coach his younger, disabled brothers.
Mrs Eyre-Nixon told the standard that Brock had a selfless attitude.
“It is a gift he is blessed with, he has such a great attitude and is always willing to help,” she said.
“Brock put his hand up to coach and manage both his younger brothers’ sporting teams.”
The 14-year-old is trialling with NSW Baseball for tours of Japan and the US later this year.
