Needles point to problem

Mt Druitt - St Mary's Standard (East) - - NEWS -

POLICE are cracking down on drug crime near Huntingwood’s “red light district”.

NSW Health needle and syringe program staff reported discarded drug paraphernalia strewn along Huntingwood Drive.

Other areas of concern for dumped needles and syringes include the Mt Druitt Town Centre Reserve, where 10 to 50 needles are collected each day, and Helena Ave, Emerton.

Blacktown police acting crime manager Senior Sergeant Adam Wilson said prostitution in the industrial area was legal for those aged over 18 but drug use was not tolerated.

“We conduct regular patrols down there in Huntingwood and we speak to the sex workers and their clients,” he said. “There’s a brothel down there and unfortunately drugs is one of the issues that prostitution can attract.”
