Woman, 54, in­jured in 100-strong brawl

A WOMAN was in­jured and four peo­ple ar­rested fol­low­ing a ma­jor brawl at Mt Druitt train sta­tion last week.

About 100 peo­ple were in­volved in the fight shortly be­fore 7.30pm on Thurs­day, which is un­der­stood to have been pre­ar­ranged.

The woman, 54, was taken to Mt Druitt Hos­pi­tal with mi­nor head and neck in­juries.

Po­lice dis­persed the crowd and found sev­eral items, in­clud­ing a molo­tov cock­tail, a knife and a golf club.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, were ar­rested at the scene.

The 18-year-old, who al­legedly had a base­ball bat, was is­sued with a field court at­ten­dance no­tice for pos­sess­ing an of­fen­sive weapon.

The 19-year-old was charged with af­fray, com­mon as­sault, us­ing of­fen­sive lan­guage in a pub­lic place and be­hav­ing in of­fen­sive man­ner in pub­lic place.

A third man, 18, was ar­rested on Mon­day and charged with ri­ot­ing and two counts of cus­tody of an of­fen­sive im­ple­ment in a pub­lic place.

Yes­ter­day an 18-year-old from Plump­ton was charged with riot, armed with in­tent and send ex­plo­sive with in­tent to burn.

Mt Druitt crime man­ager De­tec­tive In­spec­tor Dave God­dard said many Is­lander com­mu­nity mem­bers were in­volved in the brawl and po­lice would be re­view­ing CCTV footage to iden­tify fur­ther sus­pects.

“The group men­tal­ity is not on. If you’ve got a prob­lem with some­one, sort it out with other means.

“To the Is­lander com­mu­nity, the el­ders in par­tic­u­lar and com­mu­nity lead­ers, please send a mes­sage to your chil­dren that po­lice will be tak­ing firm ac­tion and we won’t go away.”

Mt Druitt de­tec­tives urged any­one with fur­ther in­for­ma­tion to come for­ward.
