ALMOST three people a day were arrested for drugrelated offences in the St Marys and Mt Druitt region last year.

In most suburbs this number has remained stable since 2014.

However, the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research revealed suburbs in the 2761 postcode – Hassall Grove, Plumpton and Oakhurst – had an increase of more than 55 per cent.

The 2770 postcode, which includes Mt Druitt, Shalvey and Lethbridge Park, had the highest number of drugrelated offences at 549. This was an increase of almost 50 arrests on the previous year.

Rooty Hill and Eastern Creek bucked the trend with drug-related charges, the number decreasing by 20 per year since 2014.

Drug offences in Blacktown local government area were up 12.8 per cent over the past two years, however, the real increase was in the Penrith local government area which snowballed by 25 per cent in the past two years.

Mt Druitt crime manager detective Inspector Dave Goddard said most of the drug-related charges involved the drug ice.

“The use of prohibited drugs, including ice, in the community is a concern for all,” Insp Goddard said.

“We will continue to be proactive and enforce the laws when necessary when it comes to those using, possessing or supplying any form of prohibited drugs.”
