WHILE most people welcome a dog or a cat into the household, the Rout family, of Colyton, have fallen in love with … a dinosaur.

Roxy the Raptor has taken up residence in the front yard and has become a headturning landmark in the suburban street.

He is seven years old, weighs in at a whopping 350kg and is almost 3m high and 6m long. He also came in at a weighty $6000.

The dinosaur has been at the Rout’s home for just over a week, but he already has attracted quite a crowd looking over the front fence. Jason Rout told The Stan

dard people had been lining up to get a photo with the predator from day one.

“People have been coming up to it and asking us where we got it,” he said.

“Some people even got out of their cars to come and get photos with it.”

Roxy was bought by Mr Rout and wife Karen on a trip to the Blue Mountains.

“My wife and I went up there before we got married and we were on our way back and she pointed it out (the dinosaur).

“She said ‘I have always wanted that’.

“Recently we called in and found out it was for sale and we put a deposit down.”

Mr Rout said the family felt very safe with Roxy.

“He has surveillance cameras on at all times,” he said.

Mr Rout’s daughter, Casey, 15, said she couldn’t believe it when her parents brought home the huge dinosaur.

“Mum and dad came home and they were trying to film my reaction, they said ‘Casey we bought a dinosaur’,” Casey said.

“I was so shocked but I love it.

“There is a gorilla up there I want to get next.”

The Routs have also bought an English phonebox to go alongside Roxy.
