THE construction industry is booming and skills such as scaffolding are in demand.

The TAFE course Certificate III in Scaffolding gives students the building blocks to work in this industry.

It includes learning how to plan, build and erect scaffolding (a temporary structure on the outside of a building). Scaffolds are used by workers to construct, repair and clean buildings.

The course is aimed at construction workers who need to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding and associated equipment.

Students discover how to build modular and coupler scaffolds, fall protection devices, catch platforms and bracket scaffolds and learn about associated operations.

The topics covered reflect and simulate a construction workplace environment.

Workplace and health/ safety is also addressed.

To be a scaffolder you will need to be physically fit and have a head for heights.

The Certificate III in Scaffolding looks at the skill set needed to work on construction projects.
