STRONG SHOWING AT STATE TITLES FOR YOUNGSTERS
MT DRUITT Netball Association’s flag flew proudly at the 2016 Netball NSW State Age Championships at Illawarra on the weekend of July 2-4.
The association’s under-14 division three team were the best performers, with 15 wins over the weekend and a hard-fought fourth place.
The under-13 division three team finished in 13th spot while the under-15 division four was 15th against some stiff competition.
The 48th championship, played at Illawarra, Bankstown and Campbelltown, attracted more than 3300 athletes from 309 teams representing 87 associations.
There also were more than 400 coaches and 500 umpires along with tens of thousands of spectators. The championship is one of the largest female sport tournaments in Australia.
Mt Druitt Netball Association president Margaret Weir congratulated the players for representing the association so well.
“The three teams worked really hard and the players put in their best efforts,” she said.
“I’d also like to thank the coaching staff for all their work and time ... we were happy with what we achieved.”
Mrs Weir said the 14s team had done particularly well.
“That group struggled a bit last year ... there were a few new players this season and they just gelled,” she said. “Overall, we were very happy.” For more information, visit mountdruittna.nsw.netball.com.au.
