Council delays new Don Bosco contract

Mt Druitt - St Mary's Standard (East) - - NEWS -

PENRITH Council will provide $33,200 to the Don Bosco Centre, St Marys, but has delayed a new five-year contract for future funding.

The grant was the final year of a five-year agreement to fund free community activities.

A new contract was de- layed for a year to give council and Don Bosco staff time to “review service delivery, attendance number and renew strategies”.

The Salesians of Don Bosco have a 75-year lease on the St Marys land, where they have created a recreational and social centre.

The centre website says Friday night sessions are closed due to poor attendance. The council youth development officer will work with the centre to develop promo materials, promote to school groups and encourage youth involvement in leadership activities.

The centre offers recreation and social activities.
