COL­LEC­TORS SHARE TOYS’ SIM­PLE JOY

Race bil­ly­carts and fly kites with the fam­ily at Rouse Hill House and Farm’s Toy Fes­ti­val. The fes­ti­val, which re­turns for another year, fea­tures some of Syd­ney’s most avid toy col­lec­tors, in­clud­ing the Mec­cano Modellers As­so­ci­a­tion, Doll Col­lec­tors Club of NSW and Aus­tralian Pedal Car Club. For those look­ing to get into the hobby toy-col­lect­ing world, there will be a chance to speak with sea­soned col­lec­tors who will have pedal cars from the De­pres­sion era on dis­play along with toy restora­tion ex­perts. Fes­ti­val-go­ers can also take a tour of Rouse Hill House, with its long his­tory dat­ing back to the early 1800s. If walk­ing isn’t for you, the fes­ti­val will in­clude mini-train rides around the farm for $4 with pro­ceeds go­ing to­wards North Western Model En­gi­neers. The two-day event will in­clude hands-on toy-mak­ing work­shops, live mu­sic and sto­ry­telling by Ur­sula Du­bosarsky, au­thor of Too Many Ele­phants in this House.
