IT’S the after-school care program going above and beyond.

The Anglicare-run program at Halinda School in Whalan has been operating for eight years .

Supporting families with children with a disability, the program aims to assist parents to one day return to work or study.

After School Care coordinator Leona Gallagher said its focus was on the specific needs of families.

“We focus on giving students opportunities for independence,” she said.

Jacob van Gent, of Doonside, said After School Care had been a big help for his sons, Jacob, 13, and Ethan, 8.

“Jacob absolutely loves it and I can see the program has been fantastic for him,” he said. “While Jacob is in care, I can spend some one-on-one time with Ethan, who also has cerebral palsy.”

The program currently has vacancies. Details: 8805 0998.
