Queen St upgrade works restarted

WORK is slowly restarting on the stalled Queen St upgrades in St Marys.

Penrith Council crews have been assigned to sites left unfinished when the previous contractor went into administration.

The stalled works also forced the cancellation of the St Marys Spring Fair.

“We have explored every avenue to ensure works can restart as quickly as they have and limit any extra impact on business,” a council spokesman said.

Council crews were stationed on the street to ensure public safely once the site became council responsibility, and have now started to complete construction tasks.

“We also have an electrical contractor, paving contractor and an asphalt contractor engaged, which are the main trades required at present,” the spokesman said.

Asphalt works will start on August 15 to complete the paved surfaces on the western side of the street.

The open site on the eastern side of the street will then be addressed.

St Marys Town Centre manager Paulette Adams said the progress was a positive. “This is a positive step forward for the works given the unforeseen circumstance,” she said.
