A man has been charged following investigations into a number of armed robberies of service stations. The Metropolitan Robbery Unit established Strike Force Mabel to investigate the robberies by a man armed with a knife, in southwest and western Sydney this month. About 1.15pm on Friday, police arrested a 28year-old man at a shopping centre in Station St, Penrith. Following his arrest, Strike Force detectives searched a home in Stanley Crescent, Penrith, where they seized a number of items to undergo forensic examination. The man was taken to Penrith police station where he was charged with five counts of armed robbery. Police will allege the charges relate to robberies at five service stations, including one in Great Western Highway at Minchinbury on September 10. The man was refused bail and will appear at Penrith Local Court on Friday.
