JUNIOR Sports Star nominee basketballer Ruval Estacio received a special mention in State Parliament after he was selected for the NSW team for the second year running.

Mt Druitt state Labor MP Edmond Atalla praised the “talented young player” for his great achievement.

“I congratulate 14-year-old Ruval James Estacio from Glendenning, who has been selected to represent NSW in the under-16 national championships in basketball,” Mr Atalla said.

The 15-year-old who plays point guard for the Penrith Panthers under-16 side said he was surprised Mr Atalla had heard about him. “I didn’t know,” Ruval said. “I’m really passionate about the game. I train three days a week. If I get an opportunity to play basketball professionally I will but I’m still deciding what I want to do.”

Ruval’s father Jesse said he was “very, very proud” of his son.

“We were grateful to have him selected for NSW,” Mr Estacio said. “He’s getting better every year.” To nominate someone for a Rebel Junior Sports Star award, visit juniorsportsstar.com.au.
