Trainer may aim for four in a row

Mt Druitt - St Mary's Standard (East) - - SPORT -

CAN Chris Waller secure an unprecedented fourth straight Epsom? Will Gai Waterhouse win the race for an eighth time? Is Darren Weir poised to finally train a Sydney winner?

These are just some elements in what is shaping as a vintage renewal of the Group 1 $1 million TAB Epsom Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick this Saturday.

Waller will have a strong presence in Saturday’s big race with Vanbrugh, McCreery and Mackintosh.

He has won the past three Epsoms with Boban (2013), He’s Your Man (2014) and Winx (2015) and has also won the past four Doncaster Miles, which proves he has the key to winning Randwick’s feature mile races.

BIG MONEY ON OFFER

THE Epsom Day meeting is the highlight of the Sydney spring carnival with nine Group or Listed races and prizemoney of almost $3.5 million up for grabs.

The Epsom Handicap is the feature race and one of three Group 1 races, including the $750,000 The Metropolitan (2400m) and $500,000 Flight Stakes (1600m).

SAMBORA ROCKS UP

RICHIE Sambora and Orianthi will perform live after the last race Royal Randwick on Epsom Day.

BACK BOWMAN

MY tip this weekend is to follow jockey Hugh Bowman at Royal Randwick. He has a super book of rides.
