THE community has the chance to pat their local cops on the back for their hard work over the year.

Nominations for the 2016 St Marys LAC Police Officer of the Year awards are now open.

Penrith Mayor John Thain joined Londonderry state Labor MP Prue Car and Lindsay federal Labor MP Emma Husar at St Marys police station last week for the 2016 launch.

Awards chairman and St Marys Rotary Club spokesman Chris Miller said the awards acknowledged the hard work of the area’s best police officers.

“The police don’t get the appreciation they should,” Mr Miller said.

“If anybody in the St Marys LAC has had any help from the police this year it would be nice if they could contact them or St Marys Rotary Club if they want to nominate any particular officer.”

Nominations close on February 6, 2017

The awards night will be held in April 2017

St Marys LAC officers, St Marys Rotary Club members and politicians launch the police awards for 2016.
