Motorcyclists will swap dark leather for a more rosy colour at the annual Sydney Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Ride, which this year celebrates 16 years of raising money and awareness for breast cancer research. Padded bras, tutus and feather boas add a feminine touch to the hogs of local motorcyclists who are not afraid to look silly to support breast cancer patients and their families. The ride is organised by Girls Ride Out with proceeds going to Westmead Breast Cancer Institute (this year money raised will be used to purchase a portable ultrasound unit). The event raises money through a nominal entry fee for riders and pillions, who are encouraged to get their friends and family to sponsor them. There will be prizes for best dressed bike and individuals. Don’t forget to start decorating a bra for the Creative Cups’ Competition. The ride starts and ends at Club Marconi and has various routes that riders can choose. They can even take part in the “trivia quiz” on the day with questions starting at Club Marconi and at the checkpoint at Picton Bowling Club. The event is also a family one with entertainment, auctions and raffles. You don’t have to ride to join in either. Come dressed in pink, join festivities and donate.
