THE LETTER OF THE WEEK
PETER (Cardilini) was a great friend of mine when I was a stupid teenager following around a group of car-mad friends during the 1980s (“Tributes stream in for truckies killed in crash”, Mt Druitt-St Marys Standard, October 12).
He used to drive me and Lizzy everywhere in his mustard orange HQ without one complaint.
He showed me how to do engine checks, he let me hand him tools while I asked endless questions about cars, and he paid me to wash his car. We went to the river every weekend in summer, drove to every lookout in a twohour radius, watched endless movies with the gang and he snuck me my first drink. I haven’t seen him for years and that’s to my loss. But I will always remember Peter Cardilini, my friend, who never complained about an annoying 14-year-old girl. RIP Pete, I love you.
