I DID some shopping today in St Marys, between Phillip St and the railway station.
I was shocked to see what is happening with the socalled street beautification.
Some time ago I noticed flowers were planted in the flower boxes, but since they were marigolds and sweet Alice I was wondering how long they would last, thinking they needed water and were easily pulled out.
I was also wondering if they were planted into planter boxes or in pots.
Today, my fears were proven right. All the flowers were dead, pots pulled out of the mulch, flowers pulled out of the pots and all just a big mess.
I’d love to know who came up with such a ridiculous idea of planting little pots among some mulch and no one to take care of these flowers. Would it not have been better to plant slowgrowing shrubs instead? Whatever is planted in these planters needs watering – who is meant to take care of these flowers and shrubs and why are we wasting so much money on such ideas?
Anyone with a bit of sense can see that this will not work as we now have more unsightly mess in Queen St. Kathy Pongrac, Ropes Crossing
