IT TAKES a special family to buy a life-size replica dinosaur and display it on their front lawn, but the Rout family has now taken theatrics to a whole new level.

Their reptilian sister, Roxy the raptor, has become a major feature in their Halloween decorations, alongside a newly restored, London-style phone box.

The Colyton family of four has taken the somewhat foreign tradition and claimed it as their own, with smoke machines, tombstones and bright costumes.

The Halloween front-yard display will have added scream factor with a freakishly realistic Freddy Krueger impersonation from family friend Garry Messer.

Karen Rout, aka Roxy the dinosaur’s mum, said the display was all to put a smile on people’s faces.

“We just do it to make people laugh,” Mrs Rout said.

“After our house fire, we just thought life’s too short. We could be grumpy because people are on our front lawn or we could push it further and people just go ‘Damn!’”

To admire their extravagant embracing of the spooky event, take a drive down Carpenter St.
