GARDEN GETS GREEN TICK
ROOTY Hill’s Hannelore Nawiesniak and husband Joe have won Blacktown Council’s award for Best Garden (Ward 4).
The pair spend six days a week in their own little slice of paradise which boasts a fountain, homemade waterfall, goldfish pond, palm trees, bromeliads, roses and lavender.
“I was surprised,” Mrs Nawiesniak said.
“It’s our first time we have entered. People kept telling us to enter. I thought ‘there must be some lovely gardens around’.”
The garden has changed several times, and was nearly destroyed during the severe hailstorm in April 2015.
“I was devastated; it took 18 months to cut out the dead plants,” Mrs Nawiesniak said.
She said the key to a beautiful garden was passion and pruning.
“You have to enjoy gardening and love it,” she said.
