NEW RETAIL HUB
Supermarket first step in grand plan for 16ha site on highway
A SUPERMARKET will be the first piece in a mega 50,000sq m retail hub in Eastern Creek.
Western Sydney Parklands Trust last week announced it had handed exclusive development management rights of the planned centre to Frasers Property. The huge facility is expected to create more than 1000 local jobs and 500 construction contracts.
Despite being “early days”, Frasers Property has a grand vision for the 16ha site on the Great Western Highway bounded by the M7 and Rooty Hill Rd South.
Frasers Property’s executive general manager Peri Macdonald said the concept plan included a 10,000sq m general retail precinct incorporating associated shops and services.
This would be in addition to 40,000sq m of “bulky goods and large format retail”.
“We are looking at getting under way, with the first stage likely to be a supermarket-based centre, once approvals are in place, hopefully late next year,” Mr Macdonald said.
Construction is expected to take place over the next five years over four stages.
“It is so well-located … and with all the other activity happening, such as the proposed western Sydney zoo, we’re particularly excited about the opportunity it holds,” Mr Macdonald said.
Mt Druitt state Labor MP Edmond Atalla said he was concerned about the impact the hub would have on existing businesses nearby.
