Santa signals an early visit
THE festive season is now in full swing, and the annual Mt Druitt Christmas Festival is set to bring good cheer to many this weekend.
From noon on Saturday at Dawson Mall, the community will have the chance to see Santa, sing Christmas carols and watch a children’s show.
Live performances and several fun-filled activities will be added features of the cost-free event, put on by Blacktown Council.
Food trucks and stalls also will be dishing up tasty treats.
A giant Christmas tree in the heart of the city will be illuminated at 8.30pm, with its decorations and fairy lights expected to heighten the merry atmosphere.
“Mt Druitt will really light up this year,” Blacktown Mayor Stephen Bali said.
He said the Mayoress Christmas Gift Appeal would be launched during the evening and he urged residents to donate gifts for children up to the age of six.
“The ideal donations are toys, books, new clothing and non-perishable goods,” Cr Bali said. Items can be dropped off by December 15. Details: 9839 6000.
There’s plenty for children to do at the Mt Druitt Festival.
