MT Druitt Midnight Basketball is celebrating its 10th tournament with a formal presentation at Emerton Leisure Centre on Friday night.

Since 2012, two Midnight Basketball tournaments have been held in Mt Druitt each year providing support, encouragement and a safe alternative to roaming the streets at night.

The milestone is one to be celebrated says Midnight Basketball Mt Druitt chairwoman Vanessa Simmonds.

“These tournaments help change the lives of our local young people,” Ms Simmonds said.

“Given their back- grounds, it is such an exciting opportunity to celebrate our 10th tournament.

“We even have three young people still involved from the inaugural tournament back in 2012.”

Friday night’s presentation will recognise the achievements and contributions of the community, volunteers and young people.

Ms Simmonds said she was excited to celebrate the program’s success.

“Midnight Basketball is a great recipe for success, building trust and friendships and opportunities for the future of us all,” she said.

“It is great so many local young people are getting involved in such a positive activity, being energetic and having fun.

“Midnight Basketball gives our young people the opportunity to meet other young people from Mt Druitt and build connections and friendships that last well after the final whistle.”

The event will start at 7pm on Friday at 35 Jersey Rd, Emerton.
