TWO men armed with a machete forced a delivery worker to the ground as they robbed a St Marys newsagent last Friday.

The thieves cut the front padlock of Walters Newsagency, in Monfarville St, and broke in about 4.30am.

They stole a large amount of cigarettes – some packets costing up to $50 each.

This is the fourth time in two years shop owners of 22 years, Sue and Ron Walters, have been robbed. They said the man in the shop at the time, a member of their delivery team, was “shaken”.

St Marys police crime manager Barry Vincent said that police received a description of the armed men.

“One was described as being male, wearing a light-coloured scarf, a black long sleeve top, dark coloured track pants and wearing a darkcoloured cap,” he said.

“The other man is being described as being of African appearance.”
